places 2024 Ireland Pilgrimage
Kinvara
a lovely guest house on the edge of the burren in kivara was my pilgrimage home base. for much of the three and a half weeks of my journey i walked the gallway quay, went to the weekly market and pub sessions, and wondered road along the fields that over looked the atlantic coast. these pictures are some of the places in kinvara amidst my pilgrimage places.
Ennistymon
my first pilgrimage in 2023 home base was ennistymon. i was called to return- and i am grateful to have heeded that call. in addition to returning to the restaurant/vintage story over looking the inagh, and wanter the main street of the town, i met the person who will repair my paternal grandfather’s violin- brendon , a luthier, a fiddler, and a visual artist. these are some pictures of the town of ennistymon and brendon’s store front.
the burren
just beyond the hedge and stone wall in my pilgrimage home base in kinvara was the burren. i woke up to the limestone landscape and went to wells, sacred sites and the perfumery in the burren. the land was arid looking and lush in places. it was one of many “thin places” my journey took me. these are pictures of some of the places i visited in the burren.
inis mor
a teacher colleague of mine recommended i visit inis mor on my first pilgrimage to hear and see irish indigenous culture- i was grateful. this year i spent one night on the island. so much more of the indigenous culture and community shared themself with me. on this island so many worlds and times weave themselves in the water and the stones and the people of this island. these are some of the pictures from my time on arainn, inis mor.
kildare
kildare, home of st. brigid monastery feels like a spiritual well-home for me. during just under 24 hour time there, i returned to the eco village of the brigidine sister and the two wells of brigid and attended mass at st. brigid cathlic church and the many public art pieces of and/or inspired by st. bridgid. these are pictures of the st. brigid art around the center of town.
