Brigid and the Cailleach
in the winter, it is known that brigid goes a mountain known as ben nevis, a mountain in scotland, beside the cailleach, the wise woman, the banfasa. in this season, brigid spends with the cailleach is the story of the turning what has been harvested during the lughnasadh, or autumn, to the dark and decay of the samhain, or autumn season. in this season of winter what was alive is turned over to death in brigid’s eternal flame.
the goddess of the hearth
brigid tends the hearths: the heart, the homes, the soul. she is the tipple goddess sparking the flame of what we deeply need from within, our needs without- the physical and human structures, and the inspirations.
the woman
it is known that brigid the goddess was born as the woman saint brigid in county kildare. from a young age she was seated in her generosity, faith, hospitality, and social justice. these we the values she lived as the woman who became the saint. she was the steward of her values as abbess of the duel monastery she established at the edge of the curragh in kildare.
